"Charity Movement" has been dealing with the issues old people face
around the world for more than 20 years

The world's population is aging rapidly. From 2015 to 2050 the proportion of people over the age of 60 is expected to double, from 12% to 22%. There will be more elderly people but what kind of life is waiting for them? Have you ever thought about getting old? Of course, we all want to have an active social life at any age. To be surrounded by family and friends. Have a stable high income. Some people may have it all, but, unfortunately, the number of old people who have none of this is very large. What problems do people of older age face? There are three of them: poverty, illnesses and loneliness. And the latter two refer to people who live in highly developed countries.

Just think, 7.2% of elderly Europeans do not meet with relatives and friends even once a year! And more than 10% of European households are owned by a lonely person over 65. It does not mean that European retirees have no living relatives. It means that people there do not care about their older relatives!

Loneliness is not a social "disease". It increases the risk of cardiovascular disease by 29% and the risk of strokes by 32%. It also leads to stresses and depressions the elderly simply cannot get out from on their own. That is why the number of suicides among people over 60 is as high as among teenagers. Teenagers and the elderly are literally killed by our indifference!

Feeling unnecessary, old people simply lose their minds. It may even happen in those families where elderly parents are surrounded by the care of their children and grandchildren. An elderly person becomes completely dependent on their younger relatives. Nobody listens to them, nobody understands. And all this leads to horrific statistics: almost 15% of people aged 60 years and older suffer from mental disorders!

Old people become as defenseless as children. Therefore, they face the same problems: physical, psychological and emotional abuse, financial dependence on others, disregard for human dignity and disrespect. Today, one in ten elderly people is treated inappropriately! What will happen tomorrow when we get old? What future is waiting for us? You can easily predict by estimating how many abandoned and miserable old people are around us now.

Do you not want to grow old like this? Then, we need to change the way we treat the elderly today! Each of us can do it! Of course, we need to start with our relatives. All of us have lonely aunts and uncles. Call them! Pay a visit. Simply talk to them! Help all organizations and foundations that are trying to provide a decent life for the elderly! Not sure where to start? Join us! Charity Movement has been dealing with the issues old people face around the world for more than 20 years. They need a lot: medicine, healthy food, care products, legal support. But the main thing is they need our attention. Simple human warmth!

Do not brush off the problems of the elderly. They are not the past, they are our future!
